4. Add the egg and vanilla extract to the butter mixture, and beat until well combined.

6. If desired, divide the dough into separate bowls and add food coloring to each bowl to create different colored dough.
7. Roll the dough into small balls, and place them on the prepared baking sheet.

11. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
